Anchor 1

Section from "Who will see the Starfish when we're gone"

"....The illusion of surrender, always to the ride

To the elements, to be at one with all

To be guided by providence, no matter what’s ahead

To restore to new horizons, no mind to put doubt to bed

Who will see the Starfish when we’re gone"

Section from "2020-21 Lock Down Recollections"

"It was hard to know the way forward back then

Locking down and cancelling plans again and again

All hope derived from simple past times lived in the now

For the now was all that was available back then

And then only allowed in groups of five or ten

Or another number decided upon daily figures

Boxed in with bated breath. Anxiety triggers"

Section from "Mother's Garden"

"Mother’s garden – she commenced her journey in this town

Her beloved birth place, her beginning, the earliest jewel in her Crown

Tended to with a mother’s love, a nurse’s loving toil

This jewel stays with her, it’s essence and it’s seasons embedded in her core

Verdant fertile garden beds rich in clay, now rich in memory restored

Reunion, family with it’s growth to come around

Her motherly love with it’s seasons softly bound..."

Section from "The Simple Things"

It’s the simple things which mean the most

The warmth of a hug, a loving gaze

Small moments of serenity, the sun through the haze

After a battle and being put to the test

An unexpected “I love you, you are the best”

A kind word over a child’s accidental graze

Being lost in the moment to be transported and found

In a game’s adventure on another land’s ground..."

Section from "I Went looking for my Frangipani Tree"

"I went looking for my frangipani tree

The one from my childhood – I danced freely underneath its intoxicating branches

Wearing a skirt, no shoes, a smile and a basket full of daydreams

The passing soft white clouds in rhythm with my movement, the radiant sun adding golden verse...."

franjapani tree 4.jpg

Section from "Family Stories"

"Intertwining family stories extend who we are

Weaving patterns shaping the fabric of who we become

A collaboration of ideas, strengthened by belonging

Fate dapples its hues, gilding the seams to create vivid tapestries.

For the children - let us dare to dream.

Let us establish new threads connecting chapters.

With the tapestry evolving, let it bring the rapture of the moment forward with each thread....."

My Creative Background

Cathy Hayson
Neutral Bay Ferry, Hayes St Ltd Print of Painting by Cathy Hayson

Early Beginnings

Growing up in Sydney, I have always had a passion for the arts and I had wonderful creative role models.

Now based on Sydney's Lower North Shore with my family. I hope that my children each find their own unique creative expressions and connections to place and that they feel as inspired by these similar natural settings as I did as a child.

I seem to gravitate towards Sydney Harbour and it's connection to the city - the feeling of being a million miles away and yet so close to the action. I spent most of my childhood at one or another of Sydney Harbour's beaches. Sunny Boy Ice blocks (those pyramid ones), pool parties, pool ponies, a lot of time outside with my friends and brothers.

More freedom to explore -  more care free times in many ways.

With multi generational ties to the Blue Mountains on my mother's side through the great aunts, I fondly recall extended family get togethers and exploring the Blue Mountains - the pillowy mist, bird song and waterfalls. Also, the vast and expanding countryside of Bathurst and further afield. Alternatively, trips to Avoca: bunks beds, cicadas and surf.

Renowned children's author and artist May Gibbs derived inspiration from both the Blue Mountains and Neutral Bay. Now that I am actively painting (in the last year or so) and writing just prior and live near her former home "Nutcote", I am in awe of her tenacity and vision over a lifetime. My own creative journey is only really just beginning - at least in it's current mediums : painting and writing.

Both my grandmothers were very creative - one who sewed beautifully and made incredible dolls. Ga was good friends with the renowned Australian artist and children's author Pixie O' Harris and lived near Parsley Bay.
